Sol Beach Hotel & Resort in Gangwon Review

hotel in korea, 5 star

The first and second night in Gangwon, Korea, I was pampered with such a luxurious hotel. The SamCheok Sol Beach Hotel and Resort is huge and really well maintained. It's unfortunate that I didn't have the time to spend a day chilling around the hotel, that would have been amazing because they have so many areas that you can walk around and enjoy the view of the ocean. I don't have the pictures but it's in my video, I do recommend visiting the Santorini park here during the day.

As for my hotel room, I was staying in a Superior Double room with a view facing the nearby beach that's unfortunately not connected to the hotel for safety purposes.

Cleansers That Do More [Review & Video Demo]

Eversoft have been trying to rebrand themselves into a younger brand for sometime now and from what I can see, they are slowly coming up with more trendy products that the younger generation are into these days.

The two new products that they sent to me to try are the Eversoft 100% Organic Tomato Micellar Cleansing Water and the Eversoft 100% Organic Yuzu 2 in 1 Cleanser and Toner. Both formulated with Japanese Technology and ingredients, and both being paraben-free, SLS free, alcohol free, and mineral oil free. Eversoft claims that the reason why they use organic plant actives because it enhances our skin's natural function and optimises skin regeneration for healthier skin. Doesn't that sounds great.

I have a video review and demo, feel free to watch them first, otherwise, as usual, scroll on for more info and written review.

My No-Frills Asian Wedding

This post is written by the groom:

My now wife and I got hitched a couple of weeks ago and looking back, it has been a breeze compared to all the scary stories that we were bombarded with the moment people heard that we were planning our wedding. “Have you searched for wedding venues? You need to book at least a year in advance leh”, “What are you wearing?”, “Are your parents agreeable?”, “Wah, so young get married already ah”, “Got money to get married or not?”, and the best question of them all, “Am I invited ah?”. Goodness me!

But one thing that I am thankful for is my gorgeous wife. Through it all, she has remained supportive and an absolute gem when it came down to decision making. She always had my back and I am thankful to God for that.

Now for the kickass story!

It all started when we first dated. It was a straightforward, no beating round the bush kinda relationship. I asked her out on a date and she said yes. BOOM! None can resist this amazing body. I'm just kidding, it was my awesome personality that nailed it.

In one of our casual chats whilst dating, we were set in mind and heart that we would have a simple, no frills wedding. One that was small and cozy. Fast forward; friendly hug – attraction – proposal to be boyfriend and girlfriend – held hands – first kiss – first fight – first video together – got down on one knee and she said yes. HAPPILY EVER AFTER! Or at least in every other Disney movie.

But then here came the wave of “WEDDING PLANNING”. Here came the unwelcomed suggestions and ideas of what is best and how things should be done. Here came the cultural needs and practices that needed to be adhered to. Here came the “You are too young to get married la”, “Got money or not?”, “What’s the rush?”, “Have you found a venue for the wedding yet? Need to book in advance leh!”.

The unrealistic projections of how much a wedding would and should cost was absolutely out of this world. Being Asian, the pressure of having an extravagant wedding is not a luxury, it is a necessity. However, a wise man once told me to NOT spend on the wedding but spend on the marriage. I plan to stick to that wise advice.

Keeping focused, my then fiancée and I shrugged off all comments and decided to take on the wedding planning ourselves. Our parents were the coolest people by allowing us to take control and decide on how our wedding should be like. The most important thing to us is having the blessing of our parents to have a small wedding.

Minor details aside, we decided to have our wedding at home. The idea of getting married in a cozy place with only the people closest to us made so much sense and it got us all excited because we only had to manage a small space. I kinda had an idea of how it would look like but when we were done with it, it was beyond everything I’ve imagined!

We took out our old lights from last Christmas and that became the wonderful backlight. My mum asked for our #TehChamLee logo from the videos that we do and she got it printed. She even took time to cut out the words from paper! And that became the focal point of every photo taken during the wedding. Great call mum! It was simple and very pretty.

My cousin, Jenny, owns a party equipment shop and she sponsored all the balloons you see in this photo. We did not ask for it but she wanted to contribute something to the wedding and the balloons made so much difference to the look and feel of the wedding. Thank you so much Jenny!

My wife, Jian, found herself a simple white dress from an independent store for less than RM200. She looked super gorgeous in it! And I got myself a Silver shirt and a grey Coat from Uniqlo for less than RM300. I wore my previously owned skinny jeans because it went well with the shirt and coat. But mostly, we were going for the maximum level of comfort. You can see it from our elated faces.

We even did the wedding car decorations ourselves! Jian got the materials and we did it together! It was really fun for us as we had the chance to spend some time together a day before the wedding.

Then came the most important part, the guest list. We decided that the idea of a small wedding is to only have the people most important to us to be there. We wanted to have the pleasure of interacting with everyone who was at the ceremony. Goes without saying, it was our immediate families and our closest friends.

The wedding ceremony was everything I had dreamed of and more. Not that I have thought much about it but looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. The chilled environment, the laughter, the not so solemn ceremony, the Ice-cream stop on the way to the ceremony, to getting married to the most beautiful girl in the world. I am blessed beyond words.

For the rest of you out there who are considering marriage, I won’t tell you how to do it but if you are considering a no-frills wedding, by all means go for it and don’t turn back! It’s real cozy and it will damn sure save you a couple bucks for the honeymoon or that overpriced house loan.

Proverbs 18:22 “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.”

Much Love,

Dex (Super Asian)

Best Skincare For Winter & Dry Weather - My Winter Travel Beauty Essentials!

I have a love hate relationship with winter and snow. They are a beautiful season but the weather condition can really dry my already super dry skin. Thus, when I was on a FAM Trip to Gangwon, South Korea in February, I was ready and brought along products that I knew would be good to withstand the harsh dry windy cold weather in Korea.

Sally Hansen Moisture Rehab & NailRoom Nail Art Buffet!

Sally Hansen Moisture Rehab

Before we talk about the fantastic nail buffet place that I've discovered while attend this nail workshop, let's talk about the new Sally Hansen Treatment product. They've recently launched Moisture Rehab Overnight Nail Serum, it claims to contain moisture and nutrient rich extracts for intense nail and cuticle restoration. Great for someone with severely dry, brittle, and dehydrated nails.

Okay, you'll probably think I'm wonky, I mean, how do anyone describe a severely dehydrated nail? To be honest, especially those gone through gel or acrylic manicure will totally know what does it mean by severe dehydrated nails. They become so brittle, thin, and weak. However, this doesn't mean that it may not apply to you if you haven't done gel or acrylic nails before. It could just be the housework or daily hands on activities that's drying your nails and fingers out.

For me, I use my hang nails as an indication that my hands and nails need my attention. It's easy to forgo caring for your hands and fingers in the midst of all your hectic schedule. I'm guilty for it.

MUST TRY Steamed Snow Crab! \\ Amazing Eateries In Gangwon, Korea.

Best place to eat in gangwon korea

If there's a must eat in my what to eat in Gangwon, South Korea list, this would be on top. There's just something about the taste and the way they serve their snow crabs that are absolutely delightful. And just like most Korea dishes, it doesn't just end with the snow crabs.

BOUNCE-CONTROL CERTIFIED SPORTS BRA!

Yup, we probably didn't see this coming. I didn't know there was such thing as a Bounce-Control Certified sport bra until Triumph announced its latest range of extremely supportive sportswear that doesn't compromise on style. They are Triumph's New Triaction range!

Ever since my new place, I'm been hitting the gym more regularly and sportswear have been more important to me than ever. I think as a lady, it's very important to own a good sports bra for those more intense workout, something that can provide good support for our breast. It makes working out so much easier. Thus, for Triumph to have the idea of having a bounce-control certified range of sports bra and getting us to try them out personally is such a brilliant plan.

Jumunjin Beach - Goblin Shooting Location. \\ What To Do In Gangwon, Korea?

I'm one of those who completed the entire series of the k-drama Goblin (Dokebi), mainly because I find myself hooked to the cast members and yeah... the witty relationship between GongYoo and Lee Dong Wook and their partners.

It has been a long time since I've completed a K-series, if I remembered correctly it was since Autumn in My Heart (Endless Love) released in 2000. That was 17 years back! And still fresh in my memory on how much I cried while watching catching it on TV.

Imagine my excitement when I saw this place popping up on my travel itinerary but is it really worth the hype?

Chivalry is Not Dead. It's Forever With You.

By the time you are reading this, we would have exchanged rings, say our vows, and be married in the presence of God at your humble home. Even with just the first sentence of this blogpost, I can already feel the sting at the back of my eyes. Tilting my head back slightly, just enough to prevent my tears from surfacing up my cornea. No words could ever truly explain how blessed and happy I am to have this privilege to spend the rest of my life with you. You are the most wonderful and God fearing man I've met in my entire life and there no one else better to grow old with other than you.

The "Will you go on a date with me" Messages
Thank you for being brave enough to be direct when asking me out for a first date. Knowing that it was your first time officially asking a girl out, I have to give you credit for doing it with so much flare and wit in your words through text and call. I find it extremely adorable.

First Date Flower
Thank you for putting up with all my first date's must-do and request. Things like getting me flower, opening and closing the car door (even though you completely forgotten to close the door just before we leave my house but it's okay, you learnt quick after that), driving, pulling the chair out for me at the restaurant (even the waitress was smiling at the gesture), paying for the meal, burping, and a crazy amazing conversation throughout the night. Most importantly, thank you for agreeing to meet my mom for the very first time (and receive some interrogation) before going off on our date. I think you did pretty well and my mom likes you, otherwise, she wouldn't have gained a son-in-law today.

Meeting my mom for the first time before taking me out on our first date.
Thank you for going through the 90 days pre-courtship with me. Being in Acts Church back then, it was quite important for me to give my mentor and huddle leader some time to get to know you better as you were from a different church. It was a little tough because we had to put a break on our strong feelings for each other just to ensure that we are not diving in fully too soon. I believe through this period of time, we have grew to understand better of each others' vision and future as an individual and as a possible future couple. I still remember that sigh of relief when the 90 days was almost over but at the same time, I also remember breaking down in a prayer meeting, fearing that my heart would be shattered again as it once was by a boy. I'm glad I did not back out and chose to love you.

The bouquet that he hand tie himself!
The "Will you be my girlfriend" question location.
The breathtaking view and weather at Tamarind Springs Restaurant.
Thank you for making our 'in a relationship' status an official one. With much preparation from your side, it was truly a spectacular one. Little things like hand tie the roses and baby's breath with your own bare hands, bringing me to a beautiful restaurant with delicious food and a great view, and holding my hands while telling me a wonderful story before asking me to be your girlfriend officially. To be honest, I was a little shy but extremely happy. By the way, not forgetting the highlight of it all was frying our popcorn chicken in my house after the dinner because the food at the fancy restaurant wasn't enough.

First YouTube Video together.

From then on, so much had happened. There were a number of challenging situations and a whole lot of laughter. I can easily confess that I have let out more tears of joy than sadness. I believe even my family knows that you make me smile and laugh a lot. I don't even remember how we got our couple nickname TehChamLee but I remember very well the first YouTube video that we did together because of our love for KFC and McD. I'm glad that I can share this video-making/content creating passion with my partner and we are still at it, building our own channel and Facebook page. Truly, we make a pretty good team.

This was how you proposed.

Thank you for getting down one knee and ask me to marry you on the 14th April 2016. Thank you for being patient with me by answering all my peculiar questions. It was especially great to hear that you have taken the time to meet up with my parents the day before to ask for their blessings. Though, I know my parents went completely cina by waving their hands and saying "haiya, no need to ask us wan la", still, I'm touched by your courageous gesture as you understand that it was crucial for me to know that you have received their blessings before asking for my hand.

I truly appreciate it that you continue to open and close the car door for me until now. I appreciate that you will still go Ikea shopping with me even though you dislike being in a crowded place, and even fixed up those annoying Ikea cupboards and bed frame for me when I'm not around. There's really nothing like a man who treats you like a princess every single day.

Thank you for being the man who leads in the relationship. Thank you for all your encouragements and support in everything I do or want to do in life. Thank you for being a partner who always remind me to keep focus on God no matter what happens, giving me the opportunity to have this whole new level of faith.

At times, I still can't believe that I get to love you, do life with you, and grow old with you. Nevertheless, I want to thank you for loving me. As of today, we are stuck together, forever baby!

L'Occitane Reine Blanche Whitening Rich Cream Review!

I feel so bad, this is a super overdue review that I thought I've written but I actually haven't. :( I must have completely forgotten about this as once I was done recording a video and taking pictures, I immediately passed to my mom for her to try because I believe she will like it. Thus, probably out of sight, out of mind. Thank God the PR person reminded me and I knew I needed to share this out immediately because truly, I love this moisturiser!

My video review is as below but if you prefer to read words, carry on scrolling!

Dior Colour Gradation Spring/Summer 2017 Makeup Collection Review & Makeup Tutorial Video!

I understand that we are probably almost towards Summer but I still want to give a few of the Dior Spring 2017 Makeup items a shout out and show my love. I've uploaded a Spring/Summer Makeup Tutorial on my YouTube channel 4 weeks ago, as well as uploaded the same video on #TehChamLee's Facebook Page which I've embedded it below. It doesn't consist all Dior items but most of them are. Feel free to check it out first.

I'm very fortunate to have Dior always being extremely generous to send me a whole bunch of products to try and review. As you can see, it's a good mix of products that are extremely gorgeous to the eyes. Honestly, I've only tried a few of them as I some I already have something similar, thus keeping for another day. My THE TWEE Clothing Haul!! #OOTTwee [Video Lookbook]

I'm very fortunate to be able to collaborate with The Twee for this Haul video and #OOTTwee Lookbook. After being very much influenced by the whole Korean scene with trips to Korea and loads of K-drama, I'm not surprise that I've become very attracted to the Korean fashion and food.

Korean fashion is generally rather sweet and ladylike, and they are very suitable for everyday wear. As compared to the western style, Korean fashion are a little more modest, which is very much suited my taste of dressing.

Awesome DIY Pallet Wall For Your Photobooth Background!

As I'm about to get married in a couple of days time, for the past month, I have been researching on a number of wedding DIYs for inspiration for my own wedding. I realise there has be a rise in trend of setting up a beautiful photo corner or photobooth specially for their guest to take pictures. No doubt, since it's so easy to snap a picture for social medias these days, people are getting more and more creative as well as seem to prefer to DIY to add that touch of personalised feeling into the wedding. Something that they can look back and be proud of as they made it themselves. Plus, it's more common for DIY projects to be cheaper than hiring someone else to do it for you.

In particular, I was really impressed by the Pallet Wall background design. It has a very rustic and of course, hipster look. The best part, it's super easy to put them together and reuse them by decorating it completely different from another event.
